In the French pest-control sector, “3D” stands for désinfection, désinsectisation and dératisation: disinfection, insect control and rodent control. It does not name a scanning or imaging technology. For bed bugs, ask how the infestation will be assessed, what measures are proposed and how follow-up will work.
What does a 3D service include?
A company may offer several services without providing all of them at every visit. A bed bug enquiry does not automatically call for rodent control or disinfection. Ask for each proposed service and its purpose to be described separately. The company's name alone does not tell you what a quote includes.
Start with observations and an inspection
French consumer authority DGCCRF recommends an on-site assessment rather than a diagnosis made only remotely. It advises comparing proposals and prioritising mechanical and thermal methods. Photographs or a telephone conversation can help prepare a visit; ask what observations support the subsequent diagnosis.
Prepare the date of the first signs, the rooms concerned, clear photographs if available, recent furniture movements and the actions already taken. Note the names and application dates of any products used. These details help explain the situation without assuming that a telephone conversation can establish the diagnosis.
Read the proposed scope of work
- Scope: which rooms, beds and belongings will be inspected or treated?
- Method: which tasks belong to the professional and which preparation is requested from occupants?
- Access: what needs to be made accessible and when will written instructions be provided?
- Follow-up: what checks are included, when will they take place and what are the terms for another visit?

Does a “3D assessment” locate every bed bug?
The abbreviation alone does not describe a detection method. Ask which method is actually proposed, what its limitations are and what report will be provided. This page does not claim a 3D scanning service or an automatic estimate of the bed bug population.
Will occupants need to leave?
Clarify this before the visit, according to the selected method and the occupants' circumstances. Mention children and pets. Request written return conditions and any ventilation or cleaning instructions. Instructions from another treatment should not be used as instructions for your own.
How should observations be reported afterwards?
Keep the report and instructions. Record dated observations and the room concerned, then report them through the agreed follow-up process. Establish who to contact and what follow-up is included when reviewing the quote.
